I've started over once, about two months ago, when I transferred from Kul Tiras to Stormrage, joining a guild where I knew no one. It turned out to be the best thing I ever did in this game. It took a bit of courage or even foolishness, but I've certainly been rewarded. New challanges, great friends, some nice progress, anything I could wish for. If you only play by safe and never move out of your comfort zone you're not as safe as you think. By clinging to something that obviously doesn't work you risk to lose much more in the long run. Nice idea for a post, looking forward to the follow-ups!
