What addons can you not live without?
Bank Items - I love this addon greatly. As I’ve mentioned before I have altitis and each alt tends to specialise in holding certain items. For example - all my TBC gems are held by Aurik since he’s the Jewelcrafter. However all of my high level enchanting mats are held by Avarix, my enchanter. If I want to know if I have enough dust / planars for a certain enchant or craftable then I’d have to go and relog to him to check if I had them - not so if I have this addon! With Bank Items I can check not only whats in the bank of any of my alts I can also check their gear and what’s in their mailboxes. The last part is especially important as I tend to use the ‘floating mailbox bank’ method of storage for some items that I don’t want to waste storage space on (i.e. Netherweave cloth). Checking the gear of low level alts is also a nice bonus as, if you see something on the auction house which you think might be really nice for them, then you’re just a click away from seeing if it really would be worth buying or if, actually, it’s not as big of an upgrade as you thought it might be.
Itemrack - Not so much use for Aurik as he doest really have enough ‘different’ gear to have totally seperate sets but for Avarix (and Mharai) it’s invaluable. I used to do it by hand until I realised this was rather stupid and a guildie reccomended me to check this addon out.
Oddly, due to a random aside on Big Bear Butt’s latest post I’m going to try out Outfitter - I’d heard it mentioned but I’m an ascriber to the “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” attitude to my addons at times… (it’s a bad habit, I really should take more time to see if I can find better versions of each addon). However, itemrack is giving me a few issues at the moment so I guess time to try out something new. The point is, though, some form of outfit swapper is invaluable. (Damn, dirty tangents! See what happens when you let them loose!).
Multimap / Gatherer - My personal map-mod and gather addon of preference. I’ve tried cartographer and, yes, it is pretty nifty but it just seemed a bit cluttered for my taste - even with turning a lot of things off I was left with something which felt a bit to heavy for my, rather simple, needs. I love gathering ore and herbs and having a map the size of my screen is irritating to the point where it maks the game less enjoyable to me so these addons are usually some of the first I install if I’m on a new machine / post patch brokenness.
Fubar - I used to use Titan and I liked it rather a lot but with the lack of development and seemingly three squagillion versisons of it running about it was a pain to update. I finally switched over to Fubar about two or so months ago and I’m pretty happy with it. I like the fact it integrates most of the mods I use nicely and it really feels like a solid ‘base’. I can play without this sort of addon (utility base?) but I find it irks me after a while that I can’t have some info at the touch of my fingertips (time, gold, bagspace, poisons, etc.)
Poison Fu - This mod can get irritating if you’re just idling / Auctioning / grinding mobs which are immune to poison but otherwise it’s pretty funky. It pops up a little box on screen when your poisons run out and allows you to renew them at the press of a button. I am terrible for noticing when my poisons are out so this really was a big bonus for me - especially now I’m hitting twenty-five mans and really need not to be screwing up simple stuff like that. It seems to detect any weapon ‘buffs’ such as (in my personal experience) windfury and, amusingly, fishing buffs on your rod.
AutoProfit - Laziness or timesaving this addon is simply useful! It vendors your grey junk for you - leaving you with nice, big, empty bags.
Clique + Grid - I don’t think I can sing the praises of these addons enough. It took a small video tutorial to help me figure out how to set them up but once I did.. my goodness! I don’t think I could go back to playing without them now on Avarix. I think I’ve bored a few of my irl wow friends to tears describing the wonders of this combination of addons (two of them play holy priests). To be fair, though, one of them now uses it and has said that, as a full time healer, it really has helped speed up her reactions! (So it’s not just me being a nublet healer, honest!)
Ogri’lazy - My terrible memory really meant this daily was impossible for me. I tried typing it out and writing it down etc. but none of them worked comfortably - I’d get mixed up or it’d take too long. When I heard of this addon I jumped at it and now I happily collect my daily quest gold with ease.
Professions Book - This one is a recent addition. I admit I don’t really need it but, again, it’s a great time saver. It basically allows you to mouse over a recipe and see which of your characters, if any, can learn it or if they already know it. Helps for snapping up bargains from the auction house and checking to see if you can make x item for a guildie. Having an enchanter, jewelcrafter and alchemist it’s rather a lot of recipes to memorise otherwise!
Atlas / AtlasLoot - I used to use this mainly for helping me remember the level ranges of instances. When I added atlasloot I then used it to check if I needed something from a particular instance before signing up for a run, too. Now, with the additions of all of the pvp and arena gear, I can use it to check up on that, too. In a way it has become a semi-informal gear list for me and has meant not having to go look up wowhead or allakazam or somesuch site when I want to find an items stats / cost / etc. Not, perhaps, one of my most ‘needed’ but one I like to have nonetheless.
Auctioneer - Like Atlas I probably could get on without this addon but it makes things ‘easier’ for me. I rarely use its suggested prices but it’s nice to see everything laid out for you in the way that it does. Being able to see the prices of items is something I’ve gotten so used to, though, that it would be hard to do without.
NotesUNeed - I like this addon a lot. Forgot the name of that tailor who made you those robes on the cheap and said you’d get a discount next time too? Not an issue with this addon. It lets you create notes on players (it will even grab all of their gear in links for you if you wish) which are accesible via the friends panel and when you mouse over them as well as letting you create on-screen pin-up notes for yourself. I use these a lot on my hunter (”BUY ARROWS” is a common one…). My terrible memory is, once again, the overriding factor in my need of this mod as I find it hard to remember the ‘names’ of people I’ve quested with or grouped with (good or bad) unless I have a note beside their name in my friends list telling me why I should remember them in particular. It also works, iirc, on members of the opposite faction - you can flag them with tags such as “nice” or “ganker” etc. so you can avoid them or return the favour, later, on your main.
YATA - YetAnotherTotemAddon. It’s an ok little addon for managing totems. Shaman classleader reccomended this one but I’m sure there must be something a little less clunky out there? Haven’t taken the time to look yet, to be honest, as it’s low on the addon priority. Not having any totem addon, though, is pretty unplayable for me.
Recount, Omen, ORaid2, DBM, XPerl - My raiding addons, required by my guild. Personally I’m not that fond of xperl but I’ve found it more comfortable than some other ui mods. Omen and recount, though, have become firm favourites. I used to use KTM and DamageMeters but prefer these - they seem to be a bit more accurate and, for me, have had far fewer ‘communication’ issues (I used to have trouble with damagemeters throwing errors when it tried to sync). DeadlyBossMods I can’t really judge as I’ve never tried any other bossmod. I’ve heard a lot of people like BigWigs but our guild doesn’t use it so I’ve never tried it - don’t want to take the chance of messing stuff up on a raid, really.
I’ve probably forgotten some (I need an addon to remember my addons!) as I’m on my laptop and I’m not sure I have all my addons installed on it due to memory issues. I’d be very happy to take any suggestions on ‘upgrades’ or even addons you think I might like!
Just for random interest I’ve uploaded a recent-ish screenie to show how my (very basic) setup looks -

Does your guild actually require Xperl specifically, or just a userframe addon with appropriate features?
Our guild doesn’t ‘require’ X-Perl as such but it’s reccomended by one of our GMs to go with ORa2 over CT_raid due to lag problems they were having with it.
If you have any suggestions I’d be glad to hear them as I’m no great fan of Xperl (there’s just so much I don’t use as a rogue).
